Gravel is needed in most aquariums as a substrate and also as a decorative finish. Exotic Tropical Fish stock a wide range of colours that are available in varying sizes from small bags up to bulk quantities for larger tanks. We also stock a range of decsorative rocks which many fish will use for both protection and breeding purposes.
We have a wide range of non toxic coloured gravel suitable for use in all types of aquariums. All gravel should be washed thoroughly prior to use. Epoxy or plastic coated gravel should never be boiled, as this will loosen the coating.
Usually the darker gravels will show the fish colors best. The lighter gravels tend to give a washed out color to the fish.
This gravel is available in a range in size from small bowl sized bags, up to bulk quantities.

Aquarium gravel comes in many sizes, shapes, colors and materials. Natural gravel is usually brown in colour and has been prewashed, but still requires thorough rinsing before using in your tank. Unless you are using a UGF (Underground Filter) or have a planted tank, gravel is not essential and is primarily used for aesthetic purposes. You will notice we do not use gravel in our tanks within the shop, and many quarantine or hospital tanks do not use any substrate, making it easier to clean the debris.
Available loose in a per Kg basis, or in 40Kg bulk bags

Exotic Tropical Fish has a range of suitable rocks for use in aquariums. We recommend you ask our advice on which rocks would best suit the type of fish you are keeping. These rocks can also be used for decorating your reptile tank too!
We recommend you avoid coral, sea shells, dolomite and limestone based materials. These will release carbonates in the tank raising its pH buffering capacity. A simple test to determine if your gravel is inert and will not affect the pH is to drip an acid such as vinegar on the gravel. If it foams or bubbles it is not inert and will leach carbonates and affect the pH.
